(As taken from brigade minutes and records that are available) During the very early days of the Brigade’s existence, most of their meetings were held in either the Institute Hall, the RSL Hall or at a member’s residence. It was not until the late 50’s that the Brigade’s station was built to house the tanker and hold meetings.

1916

The brigades first Captain was appointed, Mr. A.W. Bower, Arthur W. Bower held this position up until 1942.

1942

From this date Mr. Walter Bower then became Captain. He held this position until 1957.No actual minutes from 1916 till 1944 were available but Wal Bower kept a fire records memo book from 1942 up until 1957.Prior to 1939, most of the equipment that the brigade used, was supplied mainly by the brigade members themselves.

1942

On the recommendation of the then Shire Clerk, Mr. D.R.Kirby, the council adopted a resolution authorizing the formation of five bush fire brigades including Engadine within the Shire of Sutherland.Messer’s W.L. Bower as captain and Mr.J.Hankinson as Deputy Captain. This then formalized Engadine as an authorized bush fire brigade.

1944

The minutes that the brigade has in its possession are from the 22nd November 1944.A public meeting was held in the Engadine Institute hall and present at that meeting were the President, Mr. Marsh in the chair, Messer’s Coleman, Schwarze, Brown, W.L. Bower (Capt.), Hoskings, Dowling, Barnett and Saunders.

1947

At a public meeting, it was moved that, the members re-affirm their aim to have a suitable water truck (army type) in the district.Brigade headquarters at the time were situated at the residence of the Captain Mr. A.W Bowers in Anzac Ave., Engadine and in case of fire to ring there.

1948

At a demonstration meeting held on Mr. Mason’s verandah at 8pm on the 8th November, It was moved that a monster public meeting be held in conjunction with Heathcote and Engadine progress associations to discuss the lack of water and poor telephone facilities. The local member be asked to attend  on Nov. the 4th. At 3pm in the Institute Hall Engadine.

1949

Only one meeting held. 27th October 1949  and five fires attended.
