The first personnel carrier for the Brigade was a IIA Series1962 land rover (Long wheel base), which was purchased from the Army at Holsworthy in 1970 with an allocation of $1000. When the vehicle was first purchased it had a soft canopy which was later replaced by the Brigade with a hard top complete with sliding windows. The only airconditioning for this vehicle was to open the windows and leave the canvas flap at the rear open to allow air to blow thgrough.
Their was no such thing as power steering with the driver having a hard time to turn the vehicle, even to the point of vigorously turning the wheel to move the vehicle inches to the left or right.
Over the years the Land Rover proved to be a great asset to the Brigade in the changing over of crews on tankers, to delivering food and cold drinks to the fireground. It was also used to transport equipment to and from the field as well as picking of stores from the local fire control centre.
It was used extensively during hazard reductions to patrol fire lines and negotiate areas difficult for tankers, the vehicle was also used to transport firefighters to the Water tower at the top of Engadine which used to be used by the Brigade on extreme fire weather days to spot for fires. The vehicles call sign was Engadine 31.
Even a night where the gear stick broke off in the drivers hand could not keep this vehicle off the road, a quick weld job saw the vehicle once again back on the road for another five years. Until it was replaced in 1983 by a Toyota Land Cruiser troop carrier.

In 1983 the Brigade recieved it's first modern personnel carrier it was a FJ45 seriesToyota Landcruiser Personnel carrier 4WD, this vehicle replaced our old Land rover that served us well for many years. The main use of this vehicle like our old Land Rover was crew transport as well as food and other equipment to the field. It was the first diesel peronnel carrier for the Brigade, this would become the standard for all brigades to have diesel vehicles. The vehicle attended many fires and storm work throughout the Sutherland Shire, as well as Bredbo in the states south west. As this replaced our old vehicle it also had a call sign of Engadine 31. This Vehicle was replaced in 1995 by a Toyota troop carrier donated to the Brigade.

1995 saw the arrival of the first white personnel carrier to the Sutherland Shire it was donated to the Engadine Rural Fire Brigade. The vehicle was a HZ75 series Toyota Troop carrier 4WD 1995 model . It came with a 5 speed gearbox and AM/FM radio. It was the first vehicle equipped with power steering. It like the vehicle it had replaced had the swing open doors on the rear, which gave the Brigade the ability to load large objects that needed to be transported. This like all vehicles before it was used as a crew replacement vehicle between the trucks in the field and the fire station. Being white was something new as all vehicles before it were bushfire Orange. This vehicle was in service for around ten years when it was replaced with our current vehicle a 2005 Toyota Hilux Twin cab.Later we found the old troop carrier was sold to Shoalhaven Brigade on the South Coast.
